ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT

You can arrive at Vilnius Airport by car, public transport (bus or train) or use the transportation service “Let’s go” provided by the Order of Malta Relief Organisation.

Park your car in reserved parking spaces next to the passenger terminal – they are designated by special signs. These parking spaces are intended for the transport of reduced mobility and disabled persons exclusively; therefore, any other cars parked in them will be towed away.

There is also an opportunity to stop for a short time and to drop off passengers next to the entrance to the Departures Terminal. It is a very convenient location because an assistance call button is available nearby.

Traffic is rather intensive in this location. Please do not leave your car for a longer period of time to avoid disturbing the traffic.

If you arrive at the airport by bus, we highly recommend you to check the schedule of the transport adjusted for the disabled before the trip. All buses No 1 going on the route from the Bus Station to Vilnius Airport are suitable for passengers with special needs; buses operating on route No 3G are also convenient for people with disabilities. For bus schedules, see SE Susisiekimo paslaugos website.

A train riding from Vilnius Train Station to the airport is also adapted for the disabled. A train ride lasts 7 min; the fare is EUR 0.72 per trip. For a train schedule, click here. If you require any assistance, you should notify the staff of Vilnius Train Station a day before your planned train ride by dialling 8 700 55111.

Vilnius Airport cooperates with the Order of Malta Relief Organisation which provides a service for the disabled "Let's go". The Malteser will bring you right to the Departures Terminal by a special vehicle which can accommodate 4-5 disabled individuals in wheelchairs. The service is also available for people with vision disabilities. The Malteser can give a ride to lying persons as well. “Let’s go” services are provided upon advance registration, whereas the final fare depends on the mileage. For more on the service, see here.

Upon arrival at the airport persons with reduced mobility and disabled persons can summon assistance – special assistance call buttons are located in the car parking lot, by the bus stop, and at the departing passenger boarding point on the second level of the passenger terminal.

Our aim is to ensure quality provision of assistance. Therefore, we recommend persons with reduced mobility or disabled persons who book their flight tickets in advance to provide the airport staff with advance notice of the assistance required 48 hours before the expected departure. Please notify us by telephone or e-mail. In this case the waiting time will not exceed 10 minutes.

If you do not provide advance notice of the assistance required, we will make every possible effort to provide assistance within the shortest reasonable time; however, the waiting time for an accompanying person from the airport may be longer, i.e. around 20 minutes.

We strongly recommend persons with reduced mobility and disabled persons to arrive at Vilnius Airport at least two hours before the flight.

Important tips:

  • Make sure before the trip that you have all the necessary travel documents and required medications. Have copies of prescriptions with you.
  • You are only allowed to have small amounts of liquids in your hand luggage. They have to be placed in separate containers the volume of which does not exceed 100 ml. All containers have to fit in a single transparent and resealable plastic bag not exceeding 1 litre. One bag is intended for one passenger.
  • Add a distinct marking to your baggage to make it easily noticeable.
  • For more information on your rights in air transport, visit the European Commission website.

SERVICES AT THE AIRPORT

Upon arrival at the airport persons with reduced mobility and disabled persons can summon assistance – special assistance call buttons are located in the car parking lot, by the bus stop, and at the departing passenger boarding point on the second level of the passenger terminal.

A staff member from the ground handling company Litcargus will meet a passenger at the assistance call point, pick up luggage and handle departure procedures: baggage check-in, moving through the terminal and boarding the aircraft. The following assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility departing or arriving at Vilnius Airport:

  • Meeting the passenger on board the plane, escorting to the State Border Guard Service point, assistance with customs procedures, baggage pick-up.
  • Accompanying a disabled person or a person with reduced mobility with baggage to a car parking lot, taxi or bus stop, if required.
  • Passengers who are considered persons with reduced mobility but do not require assistance (e.g. because assistance is provided by their relatives or friends) may temporarily be provided with a wheelchair for use in the airport territory.
  • The disabled may also use their own wheelchair on departure or arrival. When boarding or disembarking the plane, the wheelchairs are considered baggage and their further transportation is the responsibility of the airline.
  • If a passenger uses an electric wheelchair, the servicing person will take the necessary measures required to connect or disconnect the battery. In consultation with the passenger, the wheelchair is further handled by the airline or used by the passenger on the trip.

Assistance is provided to disabled and reduced mobility passengers upon advance notification of the need and type of assistance. If a passenger fails to notify of the need for assistance in advance, Vilnius Airport will make every possible effort to provide the required services to the passenger. The assistance will be guaranteed in case a passenger with reduced mobility or a disabled passenger arrives at the airport at least one hour before the departure time.

The infrastructure of Vilnius Airport is adjusted for the disabled and persons with reduced mobility: there are special WCs; elevators in the arrivals and departures terminals can be entered in a wheelchair.

To avoid waiting at a security check-point, passengers with reduced mobility are given priority – they can use a special passage.
