Agreement signed with Skyways

During his visit to Vilnius on 14 May, Mr Peter Browall, the Executive Director of Swedish airline Skyways presented Skyways’ plans for Lithuania to Mr Eligijus Masiulis, the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania and Mr Tomas Vaišvila, Director General of Vilnius International Airport.
This week, Skyways the Swedish airline and Vilnius Airport have signed a cooperation agreement on direct service Vilnius-Stockholm-Vilnius (twelve weekly flights) and Vilnius - Copenhagen - Vilnius (five weekly flights). The flights will start on 2 June.

‘Airlines keep close watch on changes in global aviation market environment. The situation changes daily and, unfortunately, not to the better side. Detailed calculations are to be done and the risk is to be evaluated before starting a new route’, said Mr Browall. ‘We have plans and I believe these two routes are just a start of our nice cooperation.’

‘We keep working to achieve new direct routes. We have introduced changes to airport services pricing, we also start active marketing actions. Due to economic recession airlines are facing a significant decrease in demand for flights. Therefore, it is very important not only to start operations to new directions but also to maintain the existing routes’, said Tomas Vaišvila, Director General of Vilnius International Airport.

The Director General of Vilnius International Airport emphasized that in order to maintain the flights to the current directions, the efforts of all stakeholders; state structures, tourism, hotel business are required.
